Not a Typical Friday...

A typical Friday morning.... I'm all ready for school and go into Gracie's room to wake her up and get ready for day care. Well this Friday was like no other. When I woke Grace up she was extremely sleepy. I changed her diaper and she jut laid there which is not like her at all. I called Tony and sat Gracie up on the floor, she laid right now. She was lethargic, not responding to me at all. I called my mother immediately and she rushed over. I began feeding Grace some pedialyte because she had lots of dirty diapers the day before and I knew she was dehydrated. When my mother came she noticed that Gracie's feet, hands and lips were blue. We called the doctor and headed to the emergency room with her.

While in the emergency room Grace was given an IV, she also had to have a chest x-ray and a EKG. At this point the doctor came in and told us we were being admitted to the hospital overnight so Grace could get fluids and they also wanted to do an echocardiogram because of her blue coloring. Tony left work and was on his way to the hospital. Last year this time he was rushing to the hospital because I was in labor. What a difference a year makes.

Grace was not herself at all. All she wanted to do was sleep. She had no appetite. No smiles. No energy. It was the most horrible experience of my life.

The x-ray and ekg came back okay. He blood work was terrible. Blood sugar was 53 (which is extremely low) and electrolytes were so out of wack.

One of the worst things about the hospital stay is that only one parent can stay over. I can't get over that rule for the hospital. How could you possibly feel okay leaving your sick child at the hospital. I needed to stay. I couldn't have went home and been away from Grace. I went home for an hour to change and pack a bag. It was the longest hour of my life being away from her. So Tony stayed until Grace went to bed and he left.

Saturday morning she woke up and was beginning to show signs of improvement. She drank her pedialyte as soon as she woke up. Her appetite was minimal but she did love her Puffs we brought. Slowly as the morning progressed our Gracie was feeling better. The doctor came in and said her blood work came back great and we could go home. Thank God!

Grace getting her echocardiogram, which is an ultrasound of our heart.
She was such a good girl during this.
Grammy and Pop came to visit.
They tried to feed Grace her favorite food, pizza.
Our little girl sleeping at night
All the machines at the hospital. It was so scary
Standing up in her hospital crib.
Nap time for Mommy and Gracie
Saturday morning and showing signs of improvement.

Our little girl taking another nap. They had to tape a board to her arm so she could not bend it.
When we got home it was such a beautiful day we wanted to get out and get some fresh air so we walked to the park by our house and she was so happy. This little girl LOVES being outside.

While looking back on the weekend I think about how lucky we are to have all this technology and medicine to help our babies. Grace isn't back to herself yet but she is definitely 90% better than she was on Friday. I thank all the doctors and nurses who helped her. I also want to thank our family for being so supportive. This was a difficult time and we couldn't have got through it without you. I think about all those little babies that were in the hospital. It is heartbreaking to see your child go through all those tests and procedures. Thank God Grace is going to be fine. I pray for all those other children in the hospital and hope that they will all have the same outcome.
